Do

Cut stems at an angle

Use a sharp knife or sharp scissors

Remove all leaves below water level

Clean your vase thoroughly and fill with lukewarm water

Add some of the cut flower food to the vase water every few days

Remove the stamens from the Centre of any newly opening lily blooms to avoid possible staining of clothes and furnishings

 

Don't

Crush or split the stems

Use blunt scissors

Put flowers near fruit or leave dying flowers in the vase

Place flowers in a draught, in hot sunlight or near a radiator

Put coins, lemonade, sugar, aspirin or bleach in the water

Use metal containers for your flowers
